IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WORLD HERITAGE CONVENTION

With several years of experience with UNESCO, AKB HERITAGE supports States, communities and institutions in the implementation of the Convention concerning the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, in particular through the preparation of nomination dossiers for inscription on the World Heritage List and sustainable management plans, the monitoring of inscribed sites, or the development and implementation of projects in favor of sustainable development within these sites.

CAPACITY BUILDING

AKB HERITAGE develops and/or participates in training programs for heritage professionals and students, as well as communities, promoting the acquisition of technical skills and the transmission of cultural heritage. These training programs also include awareness-raising components highlighting the importance of heritage, aiming to strengthen collective awareness and encourage the engagement of professionals and communities in its preservation and enhancement.

MUSEUM ENHANCEMENT

AKB HERITAGE works to revitalize museums as vibrant spaces for transmission, dialogue, and memory. Through strategies combining scenography, visitor experience and museum narrative, object interpretation, cultural mediation, and audience development, we transform these institutions into dynamic hubs rooted in contemporary issues and community knowledge.

PROMOTION

The transmission and promotion of heritage are essential to ensuring its continuity and influence across generations. Through a variety of channels —publications, media and social networks—AKB HERITAGE raises public awareness of its richness and diversity. Each initiative aims to strengthen the commitment of current and future generations to the preservation and enhancement of heritage.

RESEARCH

AKB HERITAGE conducts multidisciplinary research to understand the various forms of heritage that have shaped and continue to shape the history and societies of Africa and its diasporas, as well as their connection to sustainable development dynamics. By exploring this heritage through the lens of local communities, the aim is to shed light on the past to better understand present challenges and anticipate the future trajectories of Africa and its diasporas.

EXHIBITION CURATION

AKB HERITAGE designs exhibitions dedicated to the interpretation and promotion of cultural heritage, while establishing links with contemporary artistic and cultural practices. The focus is on traditions, knowledge, and objects that bear witness to the history and diversity of African and diasporic cultures. Each exhibition is designed to stimulate reflection, raise awareness, and strengthen the connection between the public and heritage.

HERITAGE IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

AKB HERITAGE conducts heritage impact assessments in accordance with international standards. These standards include, in particular, the recommendations formulated by UNESCO and the Advisory Bodies of the World Heritage Committee for impact assessments in a World Heritage context, as well as Standard 8 of the World Bank Safeguarding System on cultural heritage management. These studies assess the effects of projects on cultural heritage, the environment, and local communities, ensuring sustainable preservation practices that respect cultural and social values.

HERITAGE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

AKB HERITAGE supports African heritage institutions and projects in designing comprehensive, innovative, and sustainable strategies. We combine contextual analysis, long-term vision, and international standards to strengthen the promotion, management, and socio-cultural impact
